The Sunday Story Club: Real-life stories that reveal the untidiness beneath the shiny surface of modern life

The Sunday Story Club begins:

“Ironically, considering how strongly we advocate face-to-face contact, the two of us met online. It was 2014 and Doris had just published a memoir, The Twelfth Raven, recounting her husband Martin’s devastating stroke and extraordinary recovery. That same year I had established a website, Sibylesque, dedicated to breaking down the female stereotypes of age, size, marital status and so on.”

This is the Blog.

And this is the book.

A Year of Wisdom

The Sibyls

A Sibyls' SalonWe do not know if, around the world, 2016 will blessed with outbreaks of wisdom. But we the Sibyls, can only live in hope.

We can also, in many small ways, apply what we have learned in life. Here are just a few thoughts that have bubbled out of the Sibyls’ Salons:

*  I was thinking about fear and overcoming fear. Fear comes with possibility. Not knowing. I find that attractive. Leap into the unknown.

*  To find yourself you have to become unmoored.

*  The hardest thing for me to learn to do is ‘keep quiet.’

*  You can have theories or children.

*  Learn from other people’s mistakes because you do not have time to make them all yourself.

When we take time to think and feel and talk in a safe, non-judgemental forum, wisdom gets a chance to bloom.

A Conversation with Wise Women

By Kerry Cue and Doris Brett

Sibylesque Pearly gates

Last Sunday, we had another gathering of The Sibyls. Our Sibyls come from a variety of backgrounds, but all have open and curious minds. The conversation was vibrant and full of wise words, as always. We kicked things off with the ‘open’ question(above), and the answers showed how diverse, thoughtful and mischievous the Sibyls can be. Here is a small selection of God’s imagined response to a Sibyl at the Gate:

*What took you so long?

*You are a good person,. You made a difference. You lived a good life.

*Welcome.

*That surprised you?

*The job’s yours!

*Don’t worry, you don’t have to catch up with all of your relatives!
